Drive isolation transformers are specifically designed for use with AC and DC adjustable speed drives. An isolation transformer, which has symmetrical winding, is used to decouple two circuits. Without electrically connecting the two circuits, isolation transformers allow an AC signal or power to be taken from one device and fed into another. Isolation transformers can be used to block transmission of DC signals from one circuit to the other but allow AC signals to pass. Interference caused by ground loops will also be blocked. Isolation transformers with electrical shields are used for power supplies for sensitive equipment such as computers or laboratory instruments. By inserting a drive isolation transformer in front of the motor drive, it reduces the harmonic distortion, attenuates electrical noise, and diminishes line voltage notching caused by motor drives. These power problems can be easily corrected by using our isolation transformers. The addition of the inductive reactance from a transformer to the motor drives power source effectively reduces the notching effects it has on the power to other loads. In three-phase applications, drive isolation transformers reduce harmonic distortion by eliminating the triplen harmonics (when the transformer is connected delta-wye).Acme Drive Isolation Transformers use strip conductors (above 75 KVA) instead of wire that easily accommodates the severe electrical and mechanical stresses found in today's AC and DC motor drives. Acme uses one turn per lay of thin strip conductor, which provides lower eddy current losses than comparable wire wound units. Lower losses = Cooler operation and longer transformer life.Strip winding minimizes axial short circuit forces that can cause mechanical displacement of the windings under faulty conditions. Acme Isolation Transformers provide extra protection for all designs 7.5 KVA and above using primary and secondary coils of equal axial length. This features tends to stop axial short circuit forces and improves the life expectancy of transformers.Copper terminations provide trouble-free operations, and Acme DITs up to and including 220 KVA have copper terminations. The process from aluminum strip coil conductors to copper terminations is accomplished by a bonding process known as "Koldwelding." This technique has been used by Acme for over 25 years to provide a permanent, trouble-free bonding of the two metals.
